She Is No Caged Bird

About this drama

Cheng Ran, an online‑novel author, dies from sudden death caused by long‑term late‑night writing. Her soul unexpectedly transmigrates into the tragic‑romance novel she herself wrote, taking over the body of the ill‑fated heroine Xie Wantang. In the original story, Xie Wantang marries Song Mocheng, a gifted writer. She endures years of domestic violence and mental manipulation. All her original manuscripts are stolen by her husband. She suffers double betrayal at his hands and his student Su Man. She is brutally murdered by Song Mocheng merely three months later. Aware of this fatal ending, Cheng Ran refuses to repeat the original host’s fate. She resolves to bide her time, lay careful plans, defy destiny and take back everything that belongs to her. Song Mocheng builds a public persona as a tender, devoted and brilliantly talented top‑tier poet. Beneath the facade, he is selfish and vicious. He gains fame and fortune entirely by stealing Xie Wantang’s years‑worth of manuscripts. Xie Wantang pretends to be docile and compliant to lower his guard. In secret, she digs up the original host’s diaries and hand‑written drafts. She contacts her best friend Zhou Zhiqing, who works in the media industry. Together they gather full‑set evidence: photos of domestic‑violence injuries, audio‑video recordings of the affair, and all original writing drafts. Under the pen name “Moran”, she anonymously submits her novel *Caged Bird*. The work wins a major literary award. She attends the awards gala side‑by‑side with Song Mocheng, setting the stage for her grand counterattack. At the literary gala, intimate photos of Song Mocheng and Su Man are projected on the big screen, igniting public outcry. Song Mocheng rushes onto the stage and tears at the award‑winner’s veil, only to find Zhou Zhiqing standing there to receive the prize. The real “Moran”, Xie Wantang, watches coldly from among the crowd.
